Progressive is known for taking risks and introducing the insurance world to many innovations. Here's a sample of the numerous awards we've received for our forward thinking.
Firsts
2008
Progressive is the first auto insurer to offer Name Your Price®, a tool that lets people tell the company how much they want to pay for car insurance. Drivers can enter a price, see the closest available package of coverages, limits, and deductibles offered based on the price entered, and then drag a "slider" to see how coverages and price can change within a range of options.
Progressive introduces MyRateSM, an innovative way to price car insurance that lets drivers get a customized rate based on how they actually drive. This optional program benefits safe drivers who deserve to pay less for car insurance because they're less likely to get into an accident.
Progressive becomes the title sponsor of the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE, an international competition designed to inspire a new generation of viable, super fuel-efficient vehicles that get 100 MPGe.
The Cleveland Indians ballpark is renamed Progressive Field after Progressive signs a 16-year naming rights deal for the stadium. Progressive also becomes the official auto insurer of the Indians.
2007
Progressive is the first insurance company to offer Pet Injury coverage, which covers dogs and cats if they're hurt when you're in a car accident.
Progressive launches the industry's first Web 2.0 site, featuring easier navigation, more personalization and customization, easier-to-use video content and more visuals throughout.
2006
Progressive expands its concierge level of service and introduces Total Loss Concierge service to help customers whose vehicles are unrepairable as the result of an accident secure a replacement vehicle and financing when needed.
Progressive becomes the first company to base its shareholder cash dividend on company performance, paying shareholders a once-a-year dividend calculated using the same profit/growth methodology as its internal "Gainshare" variable pay program.
2005
Opened the first commercial auto training facility in the industry in Tempe, Ariz., to help claims representatives better understand the damages to commercial vehicles, such as delivery trucks, utility trailers and dump trucks.
Progressive is the first major auto insurance group
to make Voice Over the Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology
available to consumers, allowing online shoppers who have
questions about their quote to click on an icon and choose
to speak with a representative over the Internet or have a
representative call them directly.
Launched a Spanish Web site, ProgressiveSeguros.com.
2004

of insurance developed expressly for independent agents and
brokers and their customers. The objective of this brand is to
help consumers better understand the benefits of buying a policy
through an agent and to help agents grow their businesses.

Became the first publicly held company to report earnings per
share monthly.

customers in select markets across the country.
Began selling the first-ever insurance policies for owners of
SegwayTM Human Transporters (HTs), which are innovative,
self-balancing, emissions-free transportation devices.
2002
Launched a unique online rate ticker allowing consumers to see the variance that exists in rates available to them from the country's leading auto insurance companies. The rate ticker displays a sampling of actual comparison rates provided to consumers across the country who use Progressive's online service.
2001
Became the first auto insurance Web site available on the
Sprint PCS Wireless Web. Progressive also launches its
payment by Web-enabled cell phone functionality.
2000

wireless Internet access to its Web site using wireless
application protocol (WAP), allowing consumers to access
general information about the company; find an independent
agent/broker in their neighborhood; make payments via Web-enabled
personal digital assistants and connect immediately
(via the phone) to make changes to their policy and/or report
a claim.
Became the first group of insurers to offer online chat
regarding insurance questions (available in Connecticut,
Florida, Indiana, Louisiana and Mississippi).

access to information never before shared with policyholders
online, including the ability to make secure, real-time payments,
track the status of claims information, and modify policy
information.
